Viburnum opulus 'Roseum' (also known as 'Sterile' or European Snowball Bush) is a popular, large deciduous shrub known for producing massive, 3-inch pom-pom-like clusters of sterile white flowers in May, which turn light pink as they fade. As a sterile cultivar, it produces no fruits (berries) or cranberry-like berries. In May it produces large clusters of sterile green flowers that mature to white and then pink. They make wonderful cut flowers. The leaves are maple-tree shaped and have reddish-orange fall color.
This shrub prefers moist well-drained loams but is tolerant of other soils in full sun to partial shade. Use in the shrub border, as a foundation plant, a specimen, or as a hedge.
